The film shows an interview with a man, a cinematographer, describing another man, a director, and an event from his past.

"No. A good person? No, no. I could never say that...

But what he did have was a rampant enthusiasm...completely unfettered by the realities of any situation he encountered. And I suppose I must say that he had some talent. But I think that any successes apparent in the work were, in most cases, wrong decisions that turned good by his bloody-mindedness to see them through. I don't think that he ever understood anything he was doing. Ever. He just didn't know any other way to be.
