Text

biombo II is a reconfiguration for CIAJG (Guimarães) of the installation biombo, originally produced with Tomás Cuhna Ferreira for Arquipélago CAC (Açores). For the original exhibition text see the page for biombo (this website). With the transfer, a number of the installation elements changed: the scaffolding structure, the museum loans, and the works directly applied to the institution walls.

Objects from the Collection José de Guimarães and Museu Regional de Arqueologia D. Diogo de Sousa (Braga) joined travelling loans from the collection of the Museu Carlos Machado (Açores), private collections, refabricated furniture designed by Lina Bo Bardi for the auditorium of MAMB, Teatro Castro Alves (Salvador, Brazil, 1959), architectural elements designed by Sigurd Lewerentz (see Guidance), archive materials (including Michel Giacometti’s Canto de Trabalho na Pedreira / Song of the Stone Worker, 1973) from the Portuguese broadcaster RTP and numerous works by the two artists.

Details of the exhibited elements are listed in the credits below the images. biombo (I and II) was produced for Geometria Sónica curated by Nuno Faria and configured with the assistance of the technical teams of Aquipélago CAC (Açores) and CIAJG (Guimarães).
